What
Your DSL ISP would not Tell You?
You are probably wondering
why you are not getting the internet speed as what your DSL Service Provider
advertised you it is. The common tag line of “Our $40 Broadband package
provides you an internet speed of up to 5 Mbps…” is mostly misinterpreted by
almost everyone.

When
a person is unaware about internet connection speeds, especially
if one does not really care, then what he would tend to do is
just sit down, get online and then pay the Internet service
provider. That is basically the cycle between users and ISPs.
Let me tell you something about the real thing
which your DSL internet provider do not tell you (or may be
does not want to tell you because you are their customer).
- Not
the actual speed as advertised by your DSL internet provider
The advertisements of the Internet package is not the
actual internet speed that you would get. For
example, a speed of up to 5Mbps means 5Mbps divided by two
minus an number. The 5Mbps speed which shows in the tray
icon is only the maximum tolerance speed of the internet
your computer could handle.
- Inaccuracy of calculating
Your internet service provider would not tell you about the
inaccuracy of calculating the file size of a certain download. There are actual delays in some
internet speed tests which could be run via the Website
itself. That is why the actual speed of the internet and the
result of the speed test never match.
- Locations
They would not tell you about locations which are a major
factor for a speedier internet connection especially if you
are located at a distant town.
