Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you have Slow DSL Connection?

High speed broadband connection normally slows down due to some factors which hamper the speed of the internet connection, some not totally involve the service itself.

There are some people who experience a slow down in their internet connection, even if they already have a high-speed internet connection. The reasons why they experience this vary, and some may not totally involve their DSL connection.

In this case, high DSL connection normally slows down due to some factors which hamper the speed of your internet connection. Here are some of the factors which normally affect the download and upload time from your PC to the Web:

  • Computer problems
It is very probable that your computer might be the cause why you still experience slow speed internet. Even though you are signed up at a speed of 1Mbps, you would only get half the speed of what is advertised from the DSL provider. That is just normal, relax. What you need to do is to check your PC from any viruses, spyware, Trojans and other infections which slows down computer processes.
  • Slow DSL due to RAM size
Check the RAM size of your computer. You could access it by browsing the Control Panel. If your computer has a low memory, try to decrease the number of applications installed in your computer as this may slow down the speed of your Internet Browsers.
  • Internet browser
If you are unhappy about your Internet connection, perhaps you might want to check out a different Internet browser. For instance, if your Internet connection is pretty slow if you are using Internet Explorer, perhaps you should try Mozilla Firefox. Most browsers’ settings can be adjusted in order to allow for a faster page loading.
  • Distance from DSL ISP's location
Check your DSL service provider’s location. If their main office is actually very far away from your place then this might be the reason why you are getting what you should have. The distance from the main branch would affect the speed of your DSL. Look for other DSL providers nearer your place. If there are, then there would be no problem.
  • Sharing of DSL connection
Connecting more than one computer into one DSL connection may cause a slowdown in the internet connection since this is obviously being shared by more than one user.

  • Too much downloads at one time
People sometimes tends to download too much information at the same time and this causes a slowdown in the internet connection. Try to download one at a time and see an improvement in the connection. If downloading huge files, avoid surfing sites that require a large process, such as that of gaming or video-streaming sites.

  • Too many visitors at the same site
Too many people visiting the same site at the same time also contributes to a slow DSL connection. Give that site some space and return, browse some other sites and return to it later. For those who love gaming, too many people connecting to one game site increases the risk of a slow gaming experience.
