Broadband Info - What is Broadband?

Many people have already heard the term “broadband” but don’t really know what it means. What does it really refer to?

Broadband is actually a term that signifies just a wide range of frequencies in a transmission system. The larger the bandwidth, the greater the frequency is. For instance, in a radio, a small bandwidth may only register Morse codes while that of a larger one, voice transmissions might be able to push through. On the other hand, music may penetrate through for a larger bandwidth. The same goes for television – static, voice transmissions and then finally, a clearer picture. A larger broadband for television results in more than one channel registering – suited for cable television.

As for telephone lines, the bandwidth that might register 64 kilobits, and for a larger bandwidth, it can accommodate a DSL connection, which is just a relative term for a broadband. Broadband simply means a data transmission over a couple of copper wires and is referred to as a broadband internet or a broadband network. However, the definition of broadband is more used in the technical sense, referring to data transmissions that are being sent to heighten the rate of transmission, even without taking into consideration the actual data rate. This is actually used in processes where an intermediate is shared by two or more signals.

Broadband Internet may be wired or wireless. Majority of companies, though, use cable wires to ensure faster and more reliable transmission.
