Types
of Satellite Broadband
There are three types
of satellite broadband connections: One-way Multicast, One-way Terrestrial Return
and Two-way.

- One-way
Multicast
The first one is the
One-way
Multicast. There is no license required for end users. The
downside of this type of satellite broadband connection is that
the end user cannot interact with the web. The end user
can only
surf. Imagine watching a television in which you only watch but
you cannot do anything and that is it.
- One-way Terrestrial Return
The second one is the
One-way Terrestrial Return. This is
used with the common dial-up access through a modem. The use of GPRS is one of these, too. With a General Packet Radio Service
enabled phone and a laptop, one can dial in to the Internet
using this type of satellite broadband.
- Two-way
The last one of the three types of satellite broadband
internet connection is the Two-way. This requires that the
satellites of companies involved in the transmission of data
should be perfectly positioned so there will be no interference
between them.
Satellite broadband can be expensive as much as twice the
ordinary price of ordinary Internet. There is also a limitation
imposed on satellite broadband users in terms of bandwidth
(mostly limited to 500 MB) and the companies offering this will
slow down the end users’ connection if this is surpassed. This
type of Internet connection is not ideal for people who
have access to normal broadband facilities.
